Stage 1

Applied

Once you've submitted your interest, a member of our team will review your application and contact you if your a good fit for next steps in the hiring process. 
Stage 2

Preliminary Background Review

We’ll conduct an initial review of your qualifications, driving history, criminal background, and credit history.
Stage 3

Preliminary Phone Call

30-minute prescheduled phone call with a member of our recruitment team. Only available to candidates who have cleared the preliminary background review. 
Stage 4

Physical Agility Test & Written Exam

Applicants for sworn positions must complete a job-related physical assessment and written test.
Stage 5

Polygraph Examination

Used to verify information and ensure honesty throughout the application process.
Stage 6

Comprehensive Background Investigation

A full investigation into your employment, criminal, financial, and personal history.
Stage 7

Oral Review Board

An interview with a panel of Fort Mill Police Department personnel.
Stage 8

Final Review by the Chief of Police

The Chief makes the final decision regarding selection for a conditional offer.
Stage 9

Conditional Job Offer

Candidates who successfully complete all prior steps will receive a conditional job offer.
Stage 10

Psychological Evaluation, Medical Exam & Drug Screen

Final assessments to ensure fitness for duty.
Stage 11
